- Enter the Sewers through the park route to reach the Lakefront.
- Speak to Fisherman Herb at the Lakefront.
- Starting Casting your Line gives an Old Fishing Rod and three Worms in the current Tasks snapshot.
- The task asks you to show Herb a Ghost Flounder and a Fog Eel.
- The snapshot says Fog Eels use Leeches, obtainable through bait packs sold at the General Store.
The item table says selecting “Use” on the Old Fishing Rod checks its bait. The September 8 official demo changelog says fishing spots no longer target diagonally on controller and fixes bait rates for bait-exclusive fish, but those notes do not document the full 1.0 control loop.

If a catch keeps failing
- Confirm the rod has bait and that the bait matches the target fish.
- Move to a clearly marked fishing spot and approach it from a cardinal direction if controller targeting behaves ambiguously.
- Re-open the in-game tutorial or controls menu rather than relying on an old demo key prompt.
- If the failure is repeatable, record platform, input method, bait, location, time, weather, and exact on-screen behavior.
Not confirmed yet: a current v1.0.0 first-party tutorial or fully reviewed gameplay capture establishing keyboard, mouse, and controller inputs; the timing and catch-resolution loop; whether fish are gated by season, time, weather, or fishing level; and a complete fish/bait table. This page does not publish button prompts or catch windows because no v1.0.0 source confirms them.
